a live forum to answer your grant application questions!

These 45-minute sessions will be held on Zoom. Advanced registration is required.

The Mistletoe Research Fellowship

The Momental Foundation welcomes applications to the Mistletoe Research Fellowship (MRF) for the 2022-2023 academic year! Accepted fellows will receive funding by early September. The application is available via the online portal at our website ( and applications will be accepted until Sunday, June 19, 2022.

The Mistletoe Research Fellowship (MRF) offers a unique career and funding opportunity to postdoctoral scholars*** - by combining $10,000 in unrestricted research funding with professional development training via remote entrepreneurial collaboration. Every Mistletoe Research Fellow participates in two programs (see below) designed to build communication and project management skills that will help them to succeed and work more effectively with outside collaborators, whether they seek industry careers or to pursue a position in academia!

***at some partner schools, MRF is also open to ABD PhD Candidates.

The Unfettered Research Grant

Provides fellowship recipients with
USD $10,000 of unrestricted
research funding that can be applied
to almost any university-approved
research-related activity,
including conference travel.

The MRF Startup Collaboration

An extracurricular professional training program in which Research Fellows join remote interdisciplinary teams and learn to apply their scholarship and expertise to help frontier technology startups to further the development of products with high social impact and humanitarian potential.
In 2022, the Momental Foundation will award up to 36 competitive fellowship opportunities to scholars from a small cohort of R1 partner universities as well as one elite foreign institution. Postdoc participants must remain full-time postdoctoral fellows throughout the 2022-2023 academic calendar year. PhD candidates at eligible schools should be “all but dissertation” and maintain full-time status with stipend support for the duration of the 2022-2023 academic calendar year. At this time, Mistletoe Research Fellowships are open to most STEM fields and some fields of Social Science (please check the FAQ for clarification).

These fields broadly include:

Engineering, Life Sciences, Health Science, Environmental Studies / Ecology / Earth Sciences,
Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry, Statistics / Data Science / Informatics,
Computer Science, and Experimental Psychology
